You may have gotten wind of the Slide Fire in Oak Creek Canyon. A small, probably man made wildfire started South of the Lodge between Slide Rock State Park yesterday afternoon. The dry windy conditions kicked the fire into high gear and the Lodge was evacuated within 20-30 minutes.

The Lodge remains unscathed and we are relieved that the evacuation went so smoothly. The fire continues to move North, growing in size with the gusty conditions. Those North of us are in our thoughts as well as the firecrews in the air and on foot.

When we heard about the fire our first thoughts were about Garland's Lodge. We hope and trust that you and all your staff have come through this without major problems - what a shame for a wonderful area. John & Bernice Tulloch

So relieved the Lodge and staff are safe and sending all good wishes your way. I know the buildings were spared - were you as fortunate with the gardens and orchards?

On Tuesday when I first saw and heard where the fire started, I felt that the Garland's Lodge would be in direct way of the fire. Thanks to the fire teams for their efforts on Tuesday night on saving this wondlerful property.

I read that Taylor had very little time to grab personal items, he did grab his guitars. Me, I would have grabbed my "Sharing the Table" cook book, no way would I leave this book to burn!

Seriously, glad to heard all structures in OC are safe for now and that know one has been injuried or lost.

When the canyon opens back up, let's all get to the canyon and support all the business that are taking a big hit financially.

Here in NY we heard Garland's buildings were spared largely because of your proactive landscaping design and your cisterns; and the efforts of the firefighters. We are glad you did not lose your historical and beautiful facility. We hope your workers and their families have not be harmed by the Slide fire; and that they may be able to return to their jobs soon. Don & Marybeth Nelson Syracuse, NY
