Things have settled down now that the Slide Fire has taken its course, out of Oak Creek Canyon and onto the Mogollon Rim to the West. While over 20,000 acres have burned, no structures or lives have been lost, due to the heroic and coordinated efforts of over 1,000 personnel.
We have been allowed to visit the lodge with Sheriff's escort to check on things and grab necessities.
Gary, Rob & Mario have generators going to maintain water and wastewater systems and to keep freezers full of cider and other provisions running.
On Thursday Hot Shot crews moved through the Lodge cleaning up debris, enjoying lunch under the apple trees.
APS is flying in and setting new powerpoles and we hope to have power by the end of today.
We have received so many calls and emails... A collective and statewide sigh of relief that the lodge survived. We are thankful to our loyal guests and staff and look forward to opening soon.
Special thanks to Jason Shook and Rick Evans and the Forest Service Firefighters that saved the Lodge.
